Dental ImplantsTRUST THE MOST EXPERIENCED COSMETIC DENTIST IN EUGENE
Implants are an excellent, long term option for replacing missing teeth. Implants can not develop cavities, lead to bone loss or affect the health of the neighboring teeth. Properly cared for, your dental implants can last you a lifetime. And you can have confidence in that knowing that Dr. Gemmell is the highest rated implant dentist in Eugene.
Made of titanium metal, very few dental implants fail to integrate. A comprehensive look at your medical history will determine if you are a candidate for implants.
There are several steps to implant placement and restoration. You will need to prepare and commit yourself for several phases of treatment. The first step is a comprehensive evaluation and consultation which will include diagnostic study models (impressions) and x-rays.
Once it has been determined that you have enough viable bone to support and implant you will be scheduled implant placement surgery. Surgery is completed in our office in a sterile field. Your implant will not be restored with a tooth today. The implant will be allowed to “rest” either with a healing cap placed over the opening or your tissue sutured over the implant. We do not want any chewing forces on the implant as it integrates.
Following surgery your body will be given approximately 4 months to allow your bone to integrate with the surface of the titanium implant. In special cases this process may take longer. After the prescribed healing time we will see you to check the progress of your healing. At anytime during your procedure you are welcome to call our office with any questions.
Congratulations! Your implant has integrated and is now a solid fixure in your jaw bone. You will be scheduled for an impression to restore your implant with an abutment and a new crown. The abutment is merely a “connector” that is screwed into your implant that is embedded in your jawbone. Now you are ready to have your new crown affixed to your abutment. Your crown will perfectly match the shape and color of the existing teeth in the arch and now one but you and your dentist will ever know.
